In order to assist in our design of traffic signals, Urban Systems has built a signal lab at our corporate headquarters.

Our signal lab is designed to assist in the design and simulation of various signal timing plans using either hardware in the loop simulation or software in the loop simulation. We have multiple types of 170, 2070, Coldfire and Nema controllers for experimental purposes and staff training.

We utilize SYNCHRO, SimTraffic and VISSIM in combination with a Trafficware Controller Interface Device (CID). The lab also has a fully functional training and testing cabinet with a Mitchell Benchtop Controller Display for testing controller functionality.

Although the lab is not designed for signal maintenance purposes, it is part of Urban Systems’ commitment to providing a complete understanding of the signals we design. The lab is used to enhance the signal timing plans and assist in testing and examining equipment prior to making a recommendation for install to a public agency.

Our signal lab is constantly expanding. We recently added a Rhythm Engineering, Insync Processor and Econolite Cobalt Controllers allowing us to test various adaptive signal capabilities, communications and to further our commitment to bringing the latest technology to the signal industry.
